True, there is the iTouch—a very nice machine with WiFi and all that. And the Notes *is* a way to write on them now. My, it's going to be a long five months for me.

My son uses his iPod Touch (which is an iPhone without the phone) for almost all his schoolwork; google, wikipedia, class scheduling, e-mail, facebook, blogging, and he uses the "Notes" application to write out his essays and take class notes. It's a $400 device that has him completely ignoring the $800 Mac Mini at home. He also has a cell phone, but the idea of putting everything in one gizmo has him drooling. Unfortunately the iPhone is not (legitimately) available in Canada yet.

A luddite myself, I have to confess that I too am eyeing this iPhone with great drooling and covetousness. Is that I word? I bet an iPhone could tell me. *wink*

Lovely, thanks for the link! The daringfireball article link above has a smart and understandable discussion of the 3G network, and why internal bus speed trumps connectivity issues, but your boy at the Guardian definitely has his finger on the, uh, pulse.

Hey Anne, looks like you're in a league with Stephen Fry, whose peerless 'Dork Talk' column in the Saturday Guardian is definitely worth catching up on via his blog, especially the first installment, about your dream machine: http://stephenfry.com/blog/?p=25

Great minds think alike.
