The lyrical mysteries brings up one of my absolute favorite things on this lovely Earth full of favorite things: Mondegreens. These are the wrong lyrics we unknowingly belt out that are based on what we hear. We sing them, whether they make sense or not, or even construct elaborate rationales for why, as odd as they may be, somehow fit into the song.

One of the most well-known Mondegreens is "There's a bathroom on the right," which of course is Creedence Clearwater's "There's a bad moon on the rise." There are loads of them in Christian hymns ("Gladly, the cross-eyed bear") and so on.

I invite you to explore the delightful world of Mondegreens (even find out why they're called this) at http://www.sfgate.com/columnists/carroll/mondegreens.shtml.

Blessings and safe travels!

"I find that I have less patience for versions of reality that are clearly at odds with physics, not to mention common sense."

This made me cheer!!!
