Oh yeah, lots! But basically just choose a spot where you have the most room on all sides for people to walk/jog/dance. Finding ribbons can be an intense last-minute search. Fabric and craft stores have the 1/2" or 3/4" wide ribbons, but they're pricey and often not long enough for the maypole dance. Try looking at online wholesale ribbon places for bulk ribbon in bright colors. Many of these places take a long time to ship orders, so ordering earlier is better! Also, depending on the size of pole you're going to use, make sure you have a post-hole digger on hand so that when the time is right there's no last-minute scrambling to dig a hole for it.

There's lots more involved, but that should steer you clear of a few major obstacles. Good luck with your garden!

I hadn't really thought of Beltain preparations beginning at equinox, but now that I look back, you're right. I didn't start seriously working toward it until after the equinox. I guess I don't have as much time to figure out the Maypole details as I thought. I've never set one up before as this will be my first time hosting a Beltain ritual/celebration, anything I need to know about Maypoles before deciding on a spot?
