Sent me down memory lane. some of the best times i remember was
on a Sunday when there used to be just 'crappy religion' on the t.v. we would with family and friends sit around and play cards for many an hour.
during the game we would sing (no one was blessed with a voice or able to hold a tune!) irish rebel songs, scottish laments, beatle songs, and my brother and i would sometimes drive people insane with the hare krishna hare krishna etc.,
precious times.
we have american idol here....do not know if we are way behind you-heck i do like the programme, both the beginning when some people audition for their moments of fame! until the finals. i find myself wondering what they are like. I like Taylor? with his grey hair and quirky movements, but then i think, what if he is right wing? racist? etc.,
and that eats into my enjoying the moment! I love the rudeness of Simon
Cowell...very unenglish!

hey girl, you almost got me convinced. I watch even less TV than you do. Maybe that's because the machine is in the basement and if I walk down there, I'll have to walk back up to go to bed, and the shows just don't seem worth it. But I have I must admit oftentimes wondered at your passion for this show and knowing your normally critical, dare I say cynical? mental proclivity, I was glad to hear more about it.
It is true that we have to look at these new forms of entertainment in the culture, indeed, anything that brings us together in peace, needs to be considered with some care. I have been known (not recently!) to watch the superbowl just to be in touch with the greater community of the USA for a few hours. Community is important, on every level, and music is important, so who can deny you your weekly ritual?
The trick is to let it bring a moment of joyous awakening rather than another hypnotic drug that keeps us from getting in touch with our own magical creative energy.
ciao for now
